Resomation

Resomation is a form of water cremation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis. It uses a gentle combination of water, heat and alkali to return the body to its natural elements, in a way that mirrors natural decomposition but in a shorter timeframe.

Resomation is a relatively new option in Ireland but is gaining recognition as an environmentally friendly alternative.

There is currently only one water resomation facility available in Ireland and that is based in Navan, Co Meath. At Dignity Funeral Care, we can advise you on its availability and help arrange resomation services where desired.

Much like traditional cremation, the ashes (in powder form) are returned to the family in an urn. These can be kept, scattered or buried according to personal wishes.

Yes. Resomation produces significantly fewer greenhouse gases, uses less energy and avoids the release of mercury or other toxins associated with flame cremation.

Acceptance varies by faith and personal belief. Many families who choose resomation do so based on personal values or environmental concerns. We’re happy to discuss this with you in the context of your own traditions and beliefs.
