Calm, Clear & Reassuring

What to Do Immediately After a Death

When you begin the process of planning a funeral, the decisions you will face might seem overwhelming. Our staff are trained to help you understand your choices and support you to make them one by one. This helps you to create your loved ones funeral, making the remembrance one of love and life celebration.

The process can be broken down into two stages; decisions regarding the funeral and how you’d like to honour your loved ones life, and decisions regarding how you’d like to care for your loved ones physical remains. Planning a ceremony, whether it’s formal or informal, traditional or non-traditional, religious or civil, provides an opportunity for family and friends to gather and support one another in taking the first steps of their healing journey. A formal service is conducted in a church, while an informal service can take place in any setting – at your home, outdoors or at our funeral home – and can incorporate music and poetry in the celebration of a life well-lived. There are endless possibilities for what the service can be and we’re honoured to go above and beyond our duty to meet your personalised and specific requests. Our staff are experienced in planning and understanding and graciously accommodating the needs of all beliefs, faiths, lifestyles and relationships.

Caring for Physical Remains

Once you’ve chosen how you’d like to celebrate your loved ones life journey, the next decision you’ll face is about how you’d like to care for their physical remains. This can be a difficult or emotional choice for you and your family. You may have had the conversation with your loved one before their death and know what their exact wishes were, but if not, we will provide you with the information you need as we help you to consider your options, and ultimately make the decision that is right for your loved one and your family. Once you’ve chosen between burial or cremation, there are other additional decisions you will need to make.

In a burial, you need to choose a coffin and a cemetery. For cremation, you’ll need to select a coffin and an urn and choose whether to bury, entomb or scatter the cremated remains.

No matter which path you decide to take, we’ll be there to support and assist you in exploring your options and making an informed decision that feels right for you and your loved one.

Healing Power of Ceremony

Coping with loss is never easy and funerals are an essential part of the recovery process. A funeral provides those who are grieving with a supportive environment in which they can begin to find closure, say goodbye and come to terms with their loss. No matter the setting, style or direction you choose, staff at Dignity Funeral Care will assist you to create a funeral that reflects your loved ones unique life journey.
